Gambit Survives In Deadpool & Wolverine Deleted Scene, Poses Big Questions About Channing Tatum's MCU Future

A Deadpool & Wolverine deleted scene teases the return of Gambit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Channing Tatum. One of the most-talked Marvel cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine was the introduction of Gambit, finally played by Tatum. The actor, who was initially set to headline his own Gambit film prior to Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox, got his full circle moment with the Phase 5 movie, with Tatum suiting up as the iconic Marvel superhero.

A month after Deadpool & Wolverine was released in theaters, Ryan Reynolds shared a new deleted scene from the movie, which specifically focuses on Tatum's Gambit in the Void. With Cassandra Nova's army defeated, the last shot of Tatum sees him looking at an inter-dimensional portal opening up, appearing to confirm that he did indeed escape the Void. Check it out below.

It's likely that this deleted scene will be featured as part of the Deadpool & Wolverine featurettes for its home media release. At the time of this story's publication, Marvel Studios have not formally announced any further plans or projects involving Tatum's version of Gambit from Deadpool & Wolverine.

How Channing Tatum's Gambit Can Return In The MCU

The deleted scene providing another look at Gambit's fate in the Deadpool & Wolverine ending naturally raises the question of how Tatum can return as Remy LeBeau. While it's unclear which universe Gambit was from, to begin with, that could likely be established whenever Tatum reprises the role. As there are only a couple of MCU movies left in The Multiverse Saga, there are really only two films that would be fitting for Gambit: the next Avengers movies.

Since Phase 6 will be the final Phase for The Multiverse Saga, it provides a perfect chance for Marvel to really go full in with their multiversal cameo galore. With Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars more than likely set to feature more Marvel legacy actors and cameos than ever, these releases would make the most sense for Tatum's Gambit return. Having the character appear here also has the added benefit of potentially allowing Tatum to have his Gambit share the screen with other X-Men actors from the Fox-Marvel era.

The only other MCU movie that Gambit could well return for after The Multiverse Saga is if Marvel Studios decides to make Tatum their main actor for the hero in the upcoming X-Men reboot. If the fan response continues to be as strong for Tatum's Gambit as it has currently been, there is no reason why Marvel Studios shouldn't continue with his iteration of the character. But for now, time will tell what the MCU has in store for Gambit following his introduction in Deadpool & Wolverine.
