Keanu Reeves Finally Shares A New Update About Constantine 2

Constantine 2's status gets a new update from its star. The first Constantine was released in 2005, with the sequel taking a long time and a lot of effort from Keanu Reeves and others to finally come close to becoming a reality. At the moment, not much is known about Constantine 2's story other than the fact the DC movie will account for Reeves' current age. However, more details could be revealed soon after a new update.

On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Keanu Reeves revealed that he is waiting on the script for Constantine 2.

Prior to Reeves' comment, the last update on Constantine 2 came in March, with Gabriel actress Tilda Swinton saying that she did not think she would return. Constantine 2 is a DC Elseworlds movie, which means it will not take place in James Gunn's DC Universe. Gunn previously said the bar for Elseworlds projects to get approved would be high, which means Constantine 2's script has a lot counting on it being great. Check out the full quote below:

“The no’s started to become a maybe which became a kinda yes… and right now waiting on a script.”

When Could Constantine 2 Be Released?

The Script's Timeline Informs A Possible Release Date

With Constantine 2's filming waiting for a script, the movie's release date will depend on when it is delivered. If Reeves and company have a script ready by the end of the year, then Constantine 2 could go into production from early to mid-2025. If that were to happen, the chances of the DC movie being ready to be released in 2026 would be great.

However, since Constantine 2 does not have the same time constraints as projects in the DCU should have, writer Akiva Goldsman could take longer to get the script just right. If the sequel's story is only locked in 2025, the movie could potentially start filming by late 2025, which in turn would make a late 2026 or early 2027 release date for Constantine 2 more likely.

Even if the Constantine 2 script is completed this year and the movie starts filming in early 2025, a release in 2026 would not be guaranteed. That is due to Gunn, one of DC Studios co-CEOs, having said that the plan is for DC to release around two movies a year. 2026 already has Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and The Batman - Part II scheduled to be released. As such, the earliest Keanu Reeves' Constantine 2 could be released might be 2027.
