Marvel Uses CGI To Hide The Identity Of Joe Locke's Character In New Agatha All Along Trailer

A new teaser trailer for Agatha All Along hides the identity of Joe Locke's new MCU character with the clever use of CGI. Heartstopper star Joe Locke joined the cast of Agatha All Along, Marvel's first WandaVision spinoff, in November 2022. Since then, however, the identity of his new MCU character has remained hidden, spurring theories concerning who he could be playing in the highly anticipated Disney+ series, which sees Kathryn Hahn return as the original Salem witch Agatha Harkness.

Joe Locke's Agatha All Along character hidden

Agatha All Along's most recent teaser trailer was released on August 29, revealing more about Joe Locke's role in the upcoming Marvel Television series. The true identity of his character, known as "Teen," remains hidden, however. Marvel Studios uses cleverly-placed CGI to hide Locke's character's name after Agatha asks who he is. It's likely Marvel won't reveal his true identity until Agatha All Along premieres on Disney+ on September 18, 2024.

All Theories About Joe Locke's Character's Identity Explained

Although Marvel Studios has remained mum about who exactly Joe Locke may be playing in Agatha All Along, there have been many theories suggesting who he could be bringing to the MCU. The most prominent theory points to Joe Locke portraying Billy Kaplan, the reincarnated son of the Scarlet Witch. Julian Hilliard played ten-year-old Billy Maximoff in WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but introducing his reincarnated form, who becomes the Young Avenger Wiccan in Marvel Comics, would be a fantastic development.

The official synopsis of Agatha All Along simply names Joe Locke's character as "Teen," though scenes from the series seem to hint at him playing Billy Kaplan. Most notably, Agatha All Along's trailer shows Locke sporting a red shirt and blue headband, which mirrors Billy Kaplan's superhero costume as Wiccan in Marvel Comics. Even so, Locke has suggested that his character's actual name is "Teen" (via Rolling Stone), so it remains to be seen what his true identity might be in the Phase 5 series.

In “Agatha All Along,” the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…

Other possible theories have suggested that Joe Locke could be playing Agatha Harkness' familiar, a witch's companion, in Agatha All Along. In Marvel Comics, this is a cat named Ebony, who could be adapted for Locke in the MCU. Joe Locke could also be playing Agatha Harkness' son, Nicholas Scratch, who may have been teased in WandaVision. However, the most popular theory, and likely development, is that Joe Locke is playing Billy Kaplan. If this is confirmed, Elizabeth Olsen's return as the Scarlet Witch may be teased, and a new Young Avenger could join the MCU.
